2025年4月26日から世界的な文化アイコンであるパティ・スミスとNY／ベルリンを拠点に活動する現代音響芸術コレクティヴのサウンドウォーク・コレクティヴによる最新プロジェクト「コレスポンデンス」のエキシビションを東京都現代美術館にて開催いたします。
サウンドウォーク・コレクティヴのステファンが詩的な霊感や歴史的な重要性をもつ土地を訪れフィールドレコーディングによって「音の記憶」を採集し、パティがその録音との親密な対話を重ねて詩を書き下ろし、さらにそのサウンドトラックに合わせてサウンドウォーク・コレクティヴが映像を編集するといった、“往復書簡（＝コレスポンデンス）”によって生まれたのが、本展の根幹を成す8つの映像です。
これらの映像はオーディオビジュアル・インスタレーションとして展示され、鑑賞者を映像、詩が交差する没入型体験へ誘います。また、映像のインスピレーション源と制作過程で行なわれたリサーチの蓄積を示すライトボックスも展示され、両アーティストによる対話の視覚的洞察を提供します。
チェルノブイリ原発事故や森林火災、動物の大量絶滅といったテーマを探求するとともに、アンドレイ・タルコフスキー、ゴダール、ピエル・パオロ・パゾリーニ、ピョートル・クロポトキンといった芸術家や革命家を参照しながら、人間と自然の関係やアーティストの役割、人間の本質について問いかけます。
From April 26, 2025, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo will host CORRESPONDENCES, an exhibition of the on-going collaborative project by Berlin based contemporary sonic artist platform Soundwalk Collective and global cultural icon Patti Smith supported by MODE.
The process sees Crasneanscki visit distant lands of poetic inspiration and historical significance, collecting sonic memories through field recordings. Smith then composes poems through an intimate dialogue with his recordings, whilst Soundwalk Collective edits visuals to match the soundtrack. This process of "correspondence" has resulted in the eight video works that form the core of the exhibition.
These video works will be presented as a bespoke audiovisual installation that invites viewers into an immersive experience where sound, visuals, and poetry intersect. Additionally, lightboxes will display the inspiration behind the video works and the research conducted during their production process, offering a visual insight into the dialogue between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith.
CORRESPONDENCES explores themes such as the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, forest fires and the mass extinction of animals, while also referencing artists and revolutionaries such as Andrei Tarkovsky, Jean-Luc Godard, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Pyotr Kropotkin; questioning the relationship between man and nature, the role of the artist and the nature of humanity.
