2月13日から14日まで、アディスアベバで開催されたアフリカ連合（AU）総会でアフリカ各国の閣僚が一堂に会する機会を捉え、各国閣僚との二国間会談や国際機関との意見交換等を実施するため、エチオピア連邦民主共和国を訪問しました。

国際秩序が乱れる中、自由・民主主義・法の支配といった我が国の普遍的価値観が守られるスペースや、多国間主義・協議のスペースが縮小している中、アフリカ各国との連携の重要性を大きく感じた出張でした。

8月に我が国で開催されるTICAD9や、南アフリカが本年の議長国であるG20等、あらゆる機会を捉え、アフリカ各国との連携を更に強化することに努めてまいります。

そのスタートポイントともなった今回の出張を支えてくださった全ての方々に心から感謝申し上げます。

I visited the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from 13 to 14 February, on the occasion of the African Union (AU) General Assembly held in Addis Ababa. On the sidelines of the AU General Assembly, I held bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers from various countries (Ethiopia, Seychelles, Mozambique, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Somalia, and Ghana), as well as with the heads of relevant international organizations (including the UN Economic Commission for Africa and the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development).

During bilateral meetings with African Foreign Ministers, I requested the participation of their Heads of State in TICAD 9 to be held in Yokohama this August, and underlined our partnership and continued commitment our shared values of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, as well as Asian and African representation in multilateral diplomacy. We also exchanged views on African-led initiatives for peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the situation in the Horn of Africa, and UN Security Council reform, and agreed to strengthen bilateral, regional and international cooperation on these issues.

It was an honor to be in Ethiopia on my first ever trip to Africa, and I cannot be more excited to welcome all counterparts to Japan this August for TICAD!
