3月3日（月）、本校ゲーンズホールにて、米日カウンシル主催の「日系アメリカ人リーダーシップ・シンポジウム2025」が行われました。 広島への原爆投下から80年という節目の年に、世界平和の推進において日系アメリカ人が担う役割について考える、貴重なシンポジウムでした。

湯﨑英彦広島県知事の基調講演と、日系アメリカ人の女性リーダー3名によるパネルディスカッションが行われました。日本との深い絆、日系アメリカ人の経験、女性としての平和実現への取り組み等をより一層際立たせるものであり、非常に多くの学びがありました。

広島女学院のレジリエンス（ばねのように困難からしなやかに回復する力）や平和教育、日米間の強化に欠かせない米日カウンシルといった機関の功績を称えるこのシンポジウムに、本校生徒・教職員・卒業生も多数参加させていただきました。会の最後に設けられた質疑応答の時間では、本校中学生も英語で鋭い質問をし、議論はより深く、学び多きものとなりました。

このようなシンポジウムを通して、未来を担う若者たちがその視野と知識を広げ、世代間の架け橋となっていくことを願っています。

The Japanese American Leadership Symposium: From Hiroshima to Hope explored Japanese Americans’ unique role in advancing global peace, as the world reflects on the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nihon Hidankyo’s Nobel Peace Prize.

Hiroshima Governor Hidehiko Yuzaki’s inspiring keynote and a distinguished panel of Japanese American Leadership Delegates (JALD) discussed Hiroshima’s legacy and the contributions of Japanese Americans to peacebuilding efforts. Personal stories highlighted deep ties to Japan, the Japanese American experience, and their unique commitments as women to the cause of peace.

Honoring the legacy of institutions like Hiroshima Jogakuin, a symbol of resilience and education, and the U.S.-Japan Council, vital in strengthening ties between our nations, the symposium was well-attended by the HJS community. Reflecting on the past and fostering understanding, we can build a more peaceful tomorrow. We hope the symposium helped young people to widen their views and knowledge and to build bridges between generations.
