Shōwa Retro is a Japanese aesthetic of nostalgia for post-WWII Japan. A great place to explore this aesthetic is Akitakata City’s Kagura Monzen Tōji-mura Village. The village is also home to Hiroshima Kagura-related goods, foods, and the Kagura Dome performance venue where you can take in a performance of kagura, Hiroshima’s most popular traditional performing art.

But first, get into the kagura spirit with Yasha Udon, a spicy noodle dish served with bright red soup and fiercer than any demon you’ll find in kagura plays 👹

After taking in the Shōwa vibes and walking around, time to take a dip in their all natural hot springs. The village is home to a large hot spring, sauna, and even an outdoor hot spring bath that’s especially refreshing in winter ♨️
