May 4th Manto Taikai (12:30 pm to 2:30 pm)
Place: In front of Otorii Gate in front of Okunitama-jinja Shrine
A flower is made by stacking several sheets of thin paper called sakura paper. The manto lanterns, which are attached to umbrella-like branches and weigh about 40 kilograms, are produced mainly by youth associations in Fuchu. In front of the Otorii Gate of the Okunitama-jinja Shrine, people compete with each other by lightly picking up and passing them around. The colorful manto lanterns add even more glamor to the Kurayami Matsuri in Fuchu (May 3-5).
