The Reversible Destiny Lofts—Mitaka (In Memory of Helen Keller) is an eye-catching housing project painted in fourteen colours, both inside and outside.

The nine units here were designed by ARAKAWA+GINS, and their bumpy floors, tilted ceilings, and spherical rooms shocked the architectural world and opened up new possibilities in thinking about the social role of art. They aim to get across the idea that by inhabiting a space that does not allow you to think of it as something that is self-evident, you can realise that you can do things that at one point you thought were impossible 🏢

でこぼこの床や傾いた天井、球状の部屋など、一般的な住居の概念を大きく覆すその設計は、建築界に衝撃を与えました。
この住宅には、「与えられた環境を当たり前と思わずに暮らすことで、不可能と思われていたことが可能になるかもしれない」という大胆なメッセージが込められています。
