Tokyo Through an Artist - Vol.5: Ei Wada
Our content series "Tokyo Through an Artist" focuses on artists working in Tokyo, diving into who they are and what they do, and showcasing the charm of Tokyo through their perspectives.
Volume 5 features Ei Wada, a musician who manipulates reel-to-reel tape recorders and revives old electrical appliances to become musical instruments. He has been working on an exciting new kind of festival “Electromagnetic Matsuri Parade” as one of the 2023 CCBT artist fellows.
Wada is working on a project called "Electronicos Fantasticos!" (electronicosfantasticos) and believes that every electrical appliance can become a musical instrument by hacking it to catch its electrical signals.
About Ei Wada crabfeet
Born in 1987. Artist/musician.
In 2015, he started "Electronicos Fantasticos!", a project that aims to revive old electrical appliances and turn them into musical instruments. He's working to celebrate them in a festival involving people from all walks of life. He is currently based in Tokyo, Hitachi, and Kyoto.

和田さんが取り組んでいるプロジェクト「エレクトロニコス・ファンタスティコス！」（electronicosfantasticos）は、あらゆる電化製品が電気信号をキャッチすることで楽器になると考え、身近にある電化製品を集めてハッキングし、新たな電磁楽器を作っています。 今回のインタビューでは、2023年度 CCBTアーティスト・フェローとして取り組まれた新しい祭「発電磁行列」についてもお話いただきました。

オープンリール式テープレコーダーを楽器として演奏するバンド「Open Reel Ensemble」主宰。2015年よりあらゆる人々を巻き込みながら古い電化製品を電子楽器として蘇らせ合奏する祭典を目指すプロジェクト「エレクトロニコス・ファンタスティコス！」を始動。現在、東京・日立・京都の3か所を拠点に活動を続けている。
