Tokyo Through an Artist - Vol.6: Etsuko Ichihara etsuko_ichihara
Our content series “Tokyo Through an Artist” focuses on artists working in Tokyo, diving into who they are and what they do, and showcasing the charm of Tokyo through their perspectives.
Volume 6 features artist and delusion inventor Etsuko Ichihara, who is gaining popularity for her creative works that fuse Japan’s unique culture with technology.
A winner of numerous awards, including the Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence Prize, Ichihara has presented works that combine technology with Japanese customs and beliefs. We interviewed Ichihara about her works to date, her thoughts on her latest work “Dystopia Land”, which is currently in theatres, and the appeal of Tokyo from an artist’s perspective.
Her exhibition “Dystopia Land” is currently on display at Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) (ccb_tokyo) in Shibuya, from March 1st (Sat) to March 16th (Sun). We hope you visit!

東京で活動を行うアーティストに注目し、作品制作の様子やインタビューをお届けするシリーズ「Tokyo Through an Artist」。
第6回は、日本独自の文化とテクノロジーを融合させた独創的な作品で人気を集める、アーティスト、妄想インベンターの市原えつこさんへのインタビューをお届けします。
文化庁メディア芸術祭優秀賞をはじめとする数々の賞を受賞し、テクノロジーと日本の習慣・信仰などを組み合わせた作品を発表してきた市原さん。これまでの活動や、現在公開中の最新作『ディストピア・ランド』に込めた思い、そしてアーティストの視点から見た東京の魅力についてお話を伺いました。
そんな市原さんの展覧会『ディストピア・ランド』が、3月1日(土)より16日(日)まで、東京・渋谷のシビック・クリエイティブ・ベース東京［CCBT］(ccb_tokyo)にて公開中です。ぜひ会場へ足を運んでみてください！
